This past Saturday, David and I opened up our home to all our dear friends to celebrate our boy. Our families each planned showers for us but we wanted to set aside a special day for the people we walk through life with. We have such an incredible support system made up of parents, singles and married couples that we felt like we wanted to treat everyone to a fun day of donuts and cocktails to say “hey thanks” for all the love and encouragement they have provided us these last seven months.
So the day was planned to be pretty low key. I’m not a fan of formal events with games and schedules so we told everyone to come and go as they pleased and by all means- eat all the donuts! I had a general idea of how I wanted everything to look but honestly took the entire day on Friday to nail down what I was actually thinking. It took me all day to set up on Friday and David was a champ and cleaned the whole house Saturday morning in addition to running last minute errands caused by my pregnant brain.
Our little house was packed to the gills with our people and while we were sad to see “No” on RSVPs weeks earlier, I was a little thankful the day of as our little home swelled with guests. We decided to have a special cocktail designed around the Cuban coffee David and I love so much since we had ordered all the donuts in all the land. Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a little rum in the afternoon?
Sitting here tonight, I thought I would have loads to say about all the details of preparation and about the day, but I’ll be honest- the whole weekend has left me plum tuckered out. It was such a delight to share the day with all our sweet friends, but all the last minute planning coupled with my lack of sleep at night has left me craving a quiet week at home. Thankfully, we are finally expecting some snow and it looks like we are getting all the snow for the year at one time. David will be home tomorrow working and I’ll also be working from my home office. We have all the plans to eat soup and drink hot coffee all day long while snuggled up in our house covered in snow.
So I hope you enjoy some small details from our first party in our home for our boy. It was a delight for us and though it left my body a little weary, I wouldn’t have traded the day for anything.
Until next time!
