Well, today was my last day of work before some time off for the holidays and I’m so very excited to be finished up! I love being home during the holidays and I plan on taking the rest of the week to just enjoy the season.
I had planned on showing off our Christmas tree in my post today, but I’ll be honest with you. It’s not the best tree we’ve ever picked. It grew on a hill so when we cut it, the base ended up looking completely different than it did on the mountain. It has quite the bald patch on the one side on the bottom that I’ve tried to hide with large presents and the edge of the sofa, but it’s there nonetheless. Also, I feel like it’s dried out so much faster than usual. We’re still five days from Christmas and every time I walk by, I can here the sprinkle of needles fall to the floor. The dryness and lack of needles has led to some serious drooping and I’m overall just over it. Fa la la la la la laaa.
Good news is the rest of the house turned out well! I’m in love with some of the small nooks I’ve put together and I’ll be sharing those with you tomorrow. I thought about sharing them today instead of the tree, but I ended up not having enough time to shoot everything. I’ll share with you guys tomorrow when I have the whole day to work with the light.
I did want to share some of my favorite little bits of our tree. Overall, it’s a pretty woodland naturey theme- shocker. As I’m flipping through these photos, I’m realizing most of these were purchased by my mom so, thanks Mom! She’s a bit of a Christmas fairy so that doesn’t really surprise me.
When it comes to ornaments, I love to keep things natural and textural. Felted wools, prickly bristles and pebbled mercury glass are my some of my favorites. I’m also really particular when it comes to colors. The more neutral, the better. I feel like that’s the key to a good collection of unique ornaments. They can all be mismatched but as long as their in the same color pallette, they’ll all work together.
That sounded so well thought out and intelligent as it came out of my mouth. I should try to verbalize my thought processes more often.
Anyways, I’m going to leave you all for tonight. I took a trip to the doctor for what I thought was an ear infection. Turns out no infection, but I have accumulated some extra fluid in there. They said they would give me steroids, but thanks to baby, that’s not going to happen. So, I’ve been instructed to just suffer through it. If you need me, I’ll be on the sofa with a hot cup of tea and head down trying to ignore the throbbing sound pulsating again and again…
and again and again and again…..
It’s all ok though. David has stepped in to make me dinner and has promised dessert. Overall, life is good and I’m on Christmas break so what could be better?
Until next time!
