This year I really wanted to play around with popcorn garland. I haven’t made any in years but remembered enjoying making it as a child. What I didn’t remember was how brushed my fingers ended up from all the needle pricks, but still, it was a relaxing activity while watching Christmas movies on a cold, icy Sunday afternoon.
When I was little, we always paired cranberries with the popcorn, but since I don’t have any red happening in my Christmas color palette, I thought about what I else I could tie in. I happened to have a vase full of eucalyptus leftover from an event and since it was getting dried out anyways, I thought it would make a nice addition.
To be honest, the cinnamon was a bit of a whim. I tossed the popcorn into the oil on the stove and then looked up at the spice rack and wondered what would happen if I added a dash. Well, let me tell you- not to toot my own horn- my whim ended up being a small stroke of genius. The cinnamon added a pretty little speckling to the popcorn and it does in fact smell like spices when you stroll past the garland! I’m probably not the first person to think of it- though I did check Pinterest and didn’t see anyone else doing it so who knows!
Either way, it was a Christmas miracle that I’ve been enjoying. I had intended to string enough garland for our entire tree, but after two hours, my fingers begged for me to give up. So I have a couple small strands tucked in the branches and a few small ones elsewhere. Next year I’ll enlist some elves to help for sure. They were all committed due to my idea being an actual whim the Sunday before Christmas.
See you all tomorrow with more Christmas goodness!
Until next time!
