David and I haven’t had a real bed since we’ve got married three years ago. We tend to be attracted to houses with tiny stairwells, so we’ve never been able to get huge frames up to the room! So we’ve been on a frame for the last few years and while it’s served its purpose, I really wanted to find a bed that would work!
So my dad and I finally sat down to sketch something up. I wanted something Gustavian but also rustic. I was inspired by this one that I found on Pinterest but knew I would need something a bit smaller and also wanted something with a softer color.
Whenever my dad and I work on projects, I start by sketching up a design on graph paper. This helps him get the appropriate dimensions once we have all the supplies.
Over time, he will scribble and erase, draw and ask me what I think then erase and adjust from there.
Then, he’ll usually condense notes into his notebook which is really handy when we head to the store to get all of our supplies for projects.
It only took him a day to complete the bed and I’m so happy with it! Home Depot has started to carry shiplap and it’s not much more expensive than the regular boards. After flipping through each one and picking the ones with the best knots, we came home and he got started.
I mean, just look at it!
Carli has really enjoyed snuggling up against the edge. Before, she would tend to slide off the edge of the bed, but now, she gets all nestled in for the night!
Dad used the frame we already had and just attached the footboard and headboard to that. So now everything is really sturdy and can be taken apart in pieces that will fit down our narrow stairs!
Brandi also loves the bed. She kept chasing me around while taking these photos all territorial like!
On top of a new bed, we finally got some decent sheets! These are the Luxe sheets from Brooklinen and OH!, are they comfy! We have the sheet set as well as a duvet cover and it’s completely changed our ideas about bed linens.
Just how comfy are they? Well, in the three years we’ve been married, David hasn’t slept under the covers once. He claims feeling trapped and so he sleeps on top with a blanket pulled over him. Well, after experiencing how soft Brooklinen sheets are, he’s finally started sleeping under the covers! I could hardly believe it!
I’ll be posting a few more updates to the bedroom in the next few weeks so keep your eye out for that!
Until next time!
