As we speak, David and I are jet setting down to the Caribbean for the week! Our bags have been packed, the kitties are settled in with a house-sitter and we’re thrilled to be on our first big vacation since our honeymoon! We’re really looking forward to having a week to just unwind and relax. My plan is to get the best of tans and finally finish my summer reading!
This trip starts with a flight so I wanted to share with you what I’m packing in my carry on bag. Last month I shared my packing tips and ideas on how to stay organized while traveling, but I thought since this trip was a little different, I’d capture this process too.
First off, I bring my laptop, chargers and “office” supplies. I know what you’re thinking- I’m supposed to be on vacation. But nothing keeps me more relaxed than knowing that I’m organized. So having my schedule and ideas book with me really keeps me grounded. Also, having my chargers around is perfect for those times I’m sitting around waiting for a flight to board.
I’ll also bring along my keys. David is driving to the airport, but I like to have a spare pair in case anything happens along the way we know we can still get home!
Everywhere we go, I pack snacks! First, it keeps me eating moderately healthy on the way, second it keeps away any hangry emotions I may experience on a long journey. This is a short flight so I’m just bringing some nuts and a chocolate bar. I’m also bringing along a water bottle. That way I can get cold water once I’m past security and not pay premium prices for bottled.
In my small pocket, I make sure I have my phone, headphones and pill containers. I’ll get these little travel containers at Target and then fill them with whatever else I need. I’ll usually have Tylenol, Dramamine, L-Theanine and Tryptophan. I get antsy on flights and I get especially antsy thinking about not feeling well. So having Dramamine and Tylenol for headaches and tummy aches really helps and having my amino acids to ease my nerves is of course perfect.
Next, I have my wallets. I carry two when we travel overseas. One with my credit cards and IDs and one with both David and I’s passports.
Next, I pop in some books. I’m currently reading The Girls and can’t wait to finish it! Since we have an early morning flight, I’m also bringing my Bible and devotional to work on either on the plane or in the airport.
I always bring my makeup bag right on the plane with me. Products are so expensive, I hate even thinking about losing them. So I just take out what I won’t need for the trip, zip up the bag and toss it in. This is also perfect for early morning flights since I won’t want to be wearing makeup when we take off but will want a bit when we land.
This little kit is a staple in my purse. It just has some bobby pins, a mirror, small brush and hair ties. That way if I get tired of having it down, I can whip something up easily on the go.
I’ll also pop in a pair of sunglasses. Since we’re flying into Florida, these are going to be much needed once we land!
I make sure to keep a little “refresh” kit with me as well. Simple things like makeup wipes, deodorant, a lint roller and tissues are perfect for when I step of the flight feeling stale! Also, a facial mist is perfect for freshening up. My favorite right now is the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic. It’s a toner but it’s alcohol free and leaves the skin moisturized and refreshed!
Lastly, I’ll toss a sweatshirt on top of the bag. Perfect for if it gets cold on the flight or if I need a little pillow to snooze. I usually bring a zip up, but my favorite lost its zipper last year so I’m currently in the market for a new one. Let me know if you have any favorites!
It all tucks in perfectly in my Madewell East-West Transport Tote.
Last thing I’ll do is take all of my extra products that I won’t be using from my purse and makeup bag and pop them in one spot for when I get back. Keeps things organized and makes for easy transition once I get home!
Well, I hope you enjoy your weekend! We’re pretty excited to get ours started! We won’t have too much time on social media, but I’ll be posting on Instagram when I can. Be sure to follow me there and at #rtrunswild to keep up with our adventures!
Until next time!
