When it comes to beauty products, once I’ve found something that works, I commit and don’t turn back. With all the choices available these days and my unmistakable susceptibility to marketing, making decisions about these types of things comes as a challenge. I also don’t want to purchase a $10 bottle of lotion that ends up living in the corner of my hallway closet. Or worse, I hate coming home with a $50 bottle of lotion that ends up breaking me out and leaving my skin worse than before application. So once I find something that works for both skin and budget, I cling to that little gem for as long as the company is willing to make it.
My current skincare routine has been a happy little family for a few years now. I like to keep it simple and quick. More importantly, I like to stay as close to natural as possible. I have found that my skin reacts best to that combo.
My first step morning and night is a little face scrub from this guy. I’ve tried almost all of the face washes from Burt’s Bees, but the Peach and Willow Bark Deep Pore Scrub is my favorite. It keeps my skin hydrated without being greasy. The little willow bark flecks are perfect exfoliants getting everything all cleaned out while the creamy texture of the wash puts moisture right back where it belongs. My little face has become so used to this guy that it doesn’t survive very well without it break out free for more than a few days.
After a good wash and towel dry, I put a thin layer of the Boots Expert Sensitive Light Moisturizer Lotion. This is the newest edition to my skincare. Before this, I was using the Boots Vanishing Day Cream. Which I loved so dearly. It smelled like roses, worked miracles with my sensitive skin and came in a precious little glass jar. It was absolutely perfect, but unfortunately Boots discontinued the product. After working my way through the stockpile I purchased once I found out it was ending, I decided to try a newer Boot’s lotion. While it lacks the pretty packaging and rose scent, the new moisturizer does still keep my skin happy and healthy.
To keep my lips smooth and moisturized, I keep one of these little gems around at all times. Smith’s Perfume Company has a full range of salves with flavors to keep the masses happy. My favorites are the original Rosebud Salve, Mint Rosebud Salve and Strawberry Salve. While the sweet tins are beautiful, I tend to keep those stashed in my bathroom or night stand since the salve can get a little melty in extreme temperatures. For traveling, I toss one of the tubes in my bag and get going. Unfortunately, you can’t order directly from the site, but I usually pick mine up at Anthro whenever I stop in.
To keep the rest of my skin clean as a whistle, I keep a healthy stock of the Lush’s Honey I Washed the Kids soap in my vanity. Since I have oily skin, I like to use a moisturizing soap so that I don’t have to slap on lotion after I’ve just cleaned my skin. This gets it all done for me. It gives a rich and smooth lather that gives an equal amount of clean and moisture. Plus the smell of honey in the morning makes me feel refreshed and ready for the day!
