I feel like I have so many things to share with you! My weekend was jam packed with happy moments. It started with my first picnic of the year with Autumn. She has finally returned from her big European adventure and after not seeing her for six weeks, I was ready for all the anecdotes! She showed up with a picnic of tacos (a new recipe she discovered on her trip), homemade hummus and veggies and of course, her famous guac….and chocolate covered almonds. I have no complaints that she is home and welcome many more quiet afternoons by the river.
Yesterday, I finally got my birthday present! When David asked what I wanted this year, all I requested was a party with plenty of gin and tonics (which he delivered) and a bike. We took a look in February, but I didn’t care for any of the ones we found. I really, really wanted to find a vintage bicycle! Even though the cruiser style is back in, I think there’s something very special about the older designs. The lines are smooth and thin and you can’t find colors as rich anymore. We were lucky enough to find a great offer on Craigslist and after an afternoon of work, David finally presented me with my perfect gift. I’ve already ridden the bike all over creation and couldn’t be happier! It’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever received and I can’t wait to cruise around town ALL SUMMER LONG!
Today was a bit low key for us. David had a visit from an out of town friend so after a breakfast, he disappeared for a few hours to catch up with him. While he was out, he stopped at his parents house and picked up his old bicycle. Once he got back, he put some air in the tires and got the brakes working again. After which we hopped on our wheels and were off to our friends’ house.
We had perfect weather for a ride and it was so fun being outside together! I kept ringing my bell yelling, “BEST DAY EVER!!!” to which David replied, “What about our wedding day??” and I hollered back, “That was pretty good too!
We rode and let the wind sweep our hair. We waved and exchanged “hellos” with the townies as we passed by. It was sublime to say the least.
After we made it to our destination, we all set off for our favorite ice cream shop in town. We convinced ourselves that the mile walk there would counterbalance the calories, and as we walked we talked about dreams and goals and our love for our small town.
Which leads me to my last big moment of the weekend! While the ice cream was a nice treat, it was in celebration of the launch of a new venture- Nutmeg Coffeehouse. My dear friend, Addie (who you’ve read about here before) and I have been working on the project for the last few weeks and today, we finally announced that we will be open for business May 4 at Farmers on the Square in downtown Carlisle! In addition to the market, we will be serving coffee and treats at summer events all throughout Cumberland Valley. So be sure to come and see us and share a cup of coffee! I’ll be writing a more detailed post about our vision later this week, but for now, please check out our Instagram and Facebook and give us a follow! If you share one of our posts, be sure to tag us and you will receive 30% off your order at the market!
This project is very near and dear to my heart and I can’t wait to see where it leads! It was the perfect day to slow down and make time for ice cream with friends, bike rides and fresh air.
The perfect day.
Until next time!
Addie and I have to say thanks to Brianna for our lovely, impromptu portrait session last week!
