Well, hello again! I can’t tell you how much I have been enjoying the season. I’ll spare you a long intro, but I will say, my heart has been so warm this week. Like I said in my last post, it has been a really long past six months and my soul has been feeling a bit wilted. I’ve needed a lot of alone time to just unwind and regain my footing.
We move two weeks ago today so I am still working on the whole house, but for now I wanted to share a preview of our bedroom that I’ve set up for fall. The Casper team asked me to share some tips and tricks for converting your space for the season. Here are several of my favorite ways to transform my spaces with just a few small steps!
Layers. A great way to transition any room for the cooler months is to add layers. For my bedroom, that means loads of pillows and all the blankets. Even though I have a studio space at home, when it gets really cold, there’s nothing like cuddling up in bed for some computer work. So I like to build up the cushions to create a huge lounge chair effect. I also layer up our comforters. The first is a flannel duvet and the second is linen. To finish I’ll just toss a throw on the end to add extra warmth.
Play with color. I really am not big on exaggerated seasonal decor. Let me qualify that, Christmas is different. 100% different- so let it be known! You will find a few pumpkins on our steps and maybe a couple of smaller ones throughout the house, but for the most part, I shy away from seasonal statements. What I do like to do is to play with color. So for fall, I love the deep oranges, yellows and ambers. What I do is just walk through the house (and have a dig through my stash) to find pieces that work well with that color palette. For this project, I picked a copper clock, a terra-cotta potted plant and one of my P.F. Candle Co. candles. Bringing all the colors together is pleasant for the eye but doesn’t scream, “IT’S FALL!” Because, let’s be honest, I do enough of that myself.
Texture. I love, love, love playing with texture. It is so visually appealing! This is a great way to keep your color palette consistent. Minus the throw, all the colors we have on the bed are blue and cream so where I added some interest is all the different feels of the fabric. I have some soft cottons, soft wash linen, raw linen, flannel and faux fur all working together to make a visually stimulating space without being too over the top.
Scents. Fall scents are so important when transforming your space! This Spiced Pumpkin scent from P.F. Candle Co. is probably tied for my favorite. It’s a tiny bit sweet with a bunch of spice creating a smell so yummy, you might just fool people into thinking you’ve been baking all day long!
Favorite things. Make sure you are bringing in your favorite activities into your room to bring as much comfort as possible. For me that means pile of books and a full pot of tea. From design books to novels to poetry, fall and winter will find a pile of books on my nightstand or stacked up next to the bed offering fuel for my soul. And who doesn’t love snuggling with a warm cup while relaxing? Whatever you may love to do, painting, journaling, internet surfing, bring it into your space and fill it up with not only stuff but also comforting moments.
I hope you found some little tidbits for your own space! Remember that it takes just a few small touches to elevate a room. Sometimes, the stores would like to convince you that you need huge wreathes with “THANKFUL” and “HARVEST” slapped across it, but all you really need is to play around with what you have and maybe put together pieces you wouldn’t typically think of as being seasonal.
Until next time!
